Really Connected

When I say I finally get it, I really mean I have finally figured out the connection between a person and their cell phone. I was one of these people that tried to stay disconnected as long as possible, and fought being married to the cell phone until it was impractical. Now I have joined the multitudes of people who have bonded with their cell phone and have now become as one.

What caused the change? I really don't know, but I do know how it has changed my life.

I have a relatively large family that are now all connected. This means that we can now all interact and communicate seamlessly throughout the day and night. I wake up at 3am and can't sleep what do I do...I text my youngest sister to see if she's awake too. She always keeps her phone where she can hear the beep for a text, but it's not like a telephone ringing in the night and waking up the whole family. So now every time she or I wake up in the middle of the night we check on each other. We laughingly told our mom who said that she calls grandma on her cell at night and does the same thing.

We also capture moments that we share with each other because we always have our cell phone doubling as a digital camera. I have pictures of candid moments, unusual sights, and just pictures to help make it seem like the whole family is with me everywhere.

My cell phone also wakes me up in the morning so I can call or text and make sure my daughter is awake. It saves me the trip upstairs and is much nicer than the old fashioned bang on the teenagers door or the old lets holler trick. It is also programmed to wake me up to sounds I like to hear so my mood is good when I wake up.

At night we used to have night lights in the hallway, but now I use my cell phone as a flashlight that gets me around in the dark as I check on the children and the dog.

I can't begin to say how all of these things make you feel connected to an innate contraption like a cell phone, but it does.
